Sleeping Beauty Reimagined
Is this dragon and this new life truly fated to be mine? Or is this just another fairy tale?
I feel stuck in a gilded prison, longing for the day escape is possible. Home is just a place to survive while I wait to figure out what my life should be. My adopted family seems to tolerate the human foundling they rescued as a kid. All except for my adopted brother. He seems to hate me… or something far more nefarious going by the leering looks and commanding comments he makes to me. All I long for is the freedom to be me.
Every day is the same. Work, then home. Until it isn’t. A normal walk home from work turns into something so much more.
I didn’t expect a dragon guardian to fall into my life and turn it upside down, reframing my entire existence. Am I the human I was always told? Or am I meant for greater things?
Fairy tales were the building blocks of my life. It’s the tales I first watched in the form of Disney movies, and they were the very books I cut my teeth on reading which led to this amazing journey I’m on as an author. Sleeping Beauty has always been near and dear to my heart, and I knew the moment I saw the series looking for authors, it was the tale I wanted to rewrite.
When I sat down to work on Sleeping Beauty, I’d read or seen so many different versions of the tale I knew I couldn’t just pick one to focus on. Instead, I picked some of my favorite elements from the myriad of stories and movies to choose from. I do deviate from the original stories a bit. How you might ask? Well, the major factor in my story was to give Sleeping Beauty a bigger part. My Beauty, Aurelius, doesn’t just get cursed to die or sleep. True Mate’s Kiss focuses more on his journey. Does he get saved? Sure, but in the end, who does the saving?
I’m not going to spoil that for you! Of course not! What I will give you is a tale weaving of betrayal and magic. I’ve got a cast of mages and dragons ready to win (or destroy) the day right at the tips of your fingers. And if things happen to get a little kinky on the way, well… bonus points for you, right?
One of the things I like to focus on in my stories are tales of redemption. It may not always be Bad Guy does this evil thing people hate, but by the end, he’s done some magical deed that cured all his evils and now we love him. Sometimes, that path is murky. Sometimes, it’s one simple mistake made that throws so much off balance we might wonder how they’ll ever recover. That’s the type of redemption we see in True Mate’s Kiss. But who makes the mistake? You’ll have to read to find out!
Will this be the last time we see Sleeping Beauty and his dragon? Okay, maybe just a hint, but the I’d say it’s likely!
Thanks for reading! I’ll leave you with one last thing to remember… love exists in the darkness.
My poor precious. My dragon wants to fight this battle for him, but I know it’s not our place. I set my fork down and curl my hand around his cheek, turning his face toward mine. “I know the future is scary. A lot is changing. But there is one thing I know for sure.”
He tilts his head into my palm, his eyes focusing on mine. “And what’s that, Az?”
I lean in to brush our lips together, knowing that touches like these will soon be ending. “That you are strong enough to get through it all. Even if you doubt yourself I know you’ll succeed.”
The sweetest smile I’ve ever seen crosses his face at my words, and a flicker of hope comes to life in his beautiful emerald eyes. I stare at him to memorize the view so I’ll remember it for the rest of my long life. “Really?”
I nod and nuzzle our noses together. “Absolutely.”
He sets his fork and knife down before swinging to face me full on. The sweet look transforms to one of determination. “Then if this is our last night together, I’m not holding out for half measures.”
I frown, confused at what he’s getting at. “What do you mean?”
He slides from the stool and presses into between my legs, sliding his arms around my neck as he stares into my eyes. “Don’t let me leave without knowing the feel of you deep inside me. Give me everything, Az.”
I stare at him. I’d been holding back, knowing if I let myself get that close it wouldn’t end well. He brushes a kiss against my lips before backing away from me. “Make your decision, dragon. I’ll be waiting.”
He disappears into the house toward my bedroom, leaving me sitting in the kitchen with plates of unfinished food and thoughts whirling in my brain.
My brain slams to a stop, and I push away from the counter. Why the fuck am I still sitting here torturing myself. A beautiful man waits on me. I’m such an idiot. If this is what we can have, it’ll at least be a beautiful memory to keep.

My fascination with magic and the paranormal started early with The Worst Witch and Labyrinth (yep, that’s where I know Tim Curry from). To this day, they remain my favorite nostalgic movies and I still watch them. Now, I’m bringing my own brand of magic and mystery to you lovely people.
Outside of writing, I’m just another crazy wife and mother (if you don’t believe me, just ask the hubs or the kiddos) with a creative flair in all walks of life. If I’m not writing, I’m designing graphics, using my cutting machine to make things, or some kind of sewing or crocheting. Come spring and fall and you’ll find me an avid storm watcher (I’d love to go storm chasing one day, #lifegoals).
